Healthquest is a software development company, specializing in healthcare. We were established in Edmonton, Alberta in 1993.

Our flagship product, the Healthquest EMR, is used by over 350 clinics and 1600 physicians across Alberta. In total, we support over 800 clinics and 3500 practitioners throughout the province, making us one of the largest EMR providers in the province.

Purpose

Microquest’s mission is to build, deliver, and support software that simplifies the business, administration, and patient interactions of community health practices, allowing practitioners to focus on delivering care.

Working through our mission allows us to progress on our overarching vision, to revolutionize community healthcare through innovative software.

Driving everything are our core corporate values of Integrity, Professionalism, Innovation, and Excellence.

History

Formed in Edmonton in 1993, the initial version of Healthquest was released in 1994 and has been continuously developed and supported ever since.

Healthquest originated as medical billing software to correspond with the changes to Alberta Health Care claims in the early 1990s. The appointment scheduling module was added shortly after the initial release, with the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) component developed and released in 2001, during the provincial push for electronic records from Alberta Health and the subsequent POSP/VCUR funding. Despite being overlooked during the VCUR 2008 RFP, our business has continued to grow and, with the ultimate demise of POSP funding, has seen a surge in growth.

In late 2014, Microquest began work on the dr2dr Secure Messaging Service, a web-hosted platform and mobile app allowing health professionals to securely send messages amongst one another. The Alberta Medical Association unanimously selected Microquest in 2015 to provide dr2dr to its members across Alberta. The dr2dr platform continues in operation today across Canada, with over 3000 users in BC, Alberta, and Ontario.

Since 2017, Microquest has been working closely with Alberta Health on their Community Information Integration (CII) project, along with the Central Patient Attachment Registry (CPAR). Microquest was the first EMR vendor to implement the CII and CPAR functionality, including medical specialist reporting, and we continue to be instrumental to the project’s ongoing success. Work with Alberta continued with the implementation of eNotifications that allow physicians to receive an electronic notification when one of their patients visits the ER or is admitted to or discharged from a hospital, which Microquest was, once again, the first vendor in Alberta to implement.

In 2018, Microquest purchased Ezbill from Medical Management Systems (MMS), adding 300 sites and over 1000 physicians to our ever-expanding user base. Microquest completed Ezbill users’ migration to Healthquest in late 2020, with many users remarking on how easy the transition was and how much they prefer Healthquest.

We pride ourselves on our service and support, reflected in the overall satisfaction of our customers, evidenced by our continued growth.
