Services HealthQuest Background and Experience HealthQuest was initially developed as a centre of excellence in affiliation with the Addiction Medicine Program of the University of British Columbia. Dr. Ray Baker, who designed and directed UBC’s Addiction Medicine program developed HealthQuest as a model interdisciplinary project to demonstrate and provide training in the biopsychosocial, screening, assessment, treatment, referral and relapse prevention in people suffering from substance use disorders often complicated by chronic pain, psychiatric illness and medical problems. Since 1993 HealthQuest's physicians, nurses, counsellors and psychologists have assessed and treated several thousand patients. We have trained many employee and family assistance program (EFAP) professionals, addiction medicine physicians, mental health professionals and workplace occupational health and safety and disability management personnel. HealthQuest has served as a research site for several phase 2 and 3 clinical trials. HealthQuest Occupational Health Corporation Independent medical exams, preplacement physicals, return-to-work assessments and comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments are conducted in our Richmond office. This is also where we conduct small group training and coordinate the larger training programs. From here we liaise with a carefully selected group of preferred health service providers right across Canada. We utilize occupational health nurses for worksite clinical services and case management. Under the medical direction of Dr. Ray Baker we have cultivated a strong team of occupational medicine physicians and psychiatrists. We also utilize several psychologist consultants, skilled in chronic pain and emotional trauma. Healthquest specializes in the assessment, treatment planning and return-to-work for personnel with complex disabilities, including the invisible disabilities. (chronic pain syndrome, stress-related and emotional disorders, substance use disorders). We work with organizations assisting them to develop policies and training programs teaching the most effective disability management and workplace health promotion techniques.
