National Institute on Drug Abuse
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the principal biomedical and behavioral research agency of the U.S. Government. Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse
The Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA) is an arms-length, national agency, established in 1988 by an Act of Parliament. Funded by Canada's Drug Strategy and through its own revenue-generating efforts, the Centre: promotes informed debate on substance abuse issues and encourages public participation in reducing the harm associated with drug abuse; disseminates information on the nature, extent and consequences of substance abuse; and supports and assists organizations involved in substance abuse treatment, prevention and educational programming.

Society for the Study of Addiction
Britain's SSA was founded in 1884. It is a learned society whose key objective is to support the communication of scientific knowledge about dependence on alcohol, nicotine and other drugs. It aims to encourage the systematic study of dependence and to promote policy analysis.
